Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) survey arrangement is based on a predictive maintenance strategy that detects early signs of potential equipment failure. This enables proactive scheduling of maintenance only when needed—not at predetermined intervals.
Performing maintenance only based on predetermined intervals or running hours will in many cases result in unnecessary maintenance and can lead to wear out or introduce failures caused by human error. This again results in reduced equipment reliability and increased downtime (out of service time).
The CBM-survey arrangement combines predetermined (scheduled) maintenance with predicative maintenance approach together with an approved Service Supplier. This means that the Customer must cooperate with an approved Service Supplier to become certified within the Condition Based Maintenance survey arrangement.
BENEFITS
-
Minimized disruption: CBM performed while the asset is working, which lessens the chances of disruption to normal operations.
-
Targeted maintenance: only perform maintenance after a decrease in the condition of the asset has been observed.
-
Enhanced planning and control: a predictive maintenance approach provides improved planning and control that avoids failures before they happen:
-
Minimizes unscheduled downtime due to catastrophic failure
-
Reduces the cost of asset failures.
-
Optimizes maintenance intervals (more optimal than manufacturer recommendations), and minimizes time spent on maintenance.
-
Minimizes overtime costs by better scheduling of activities.
-
Minimizes requirement for emergency spare parts (improved spares forecasting).
-
Improved equipment reliability, longer asset life cycles and increased production output.
-
-
Class Society compliance: no requirements from Class Societies to open classified machinery for inspection during five-year classifications. Opening machinery only based on component condition assessment from an approved Service Supplier. This also implies a significant reduction in price for the Customer.
-
Insurance support: insurance companies support innovations and strategies which can improve ship performance and avoid undesirable incidents. If such incidents occur when the Customer is exceeding manufacturer maintenance interval recommendations, it is important that the available documentation from the monitoring equipment originates from an approved Service Provider.
