Our primary objective is to minimize the volume of slop transported to shore. Ideally, all slop should be treated at the point of generation - such as rigs, platforms, or drillships - eliminating a major bottleneck in drilling operations.
We recognize that customers have differing needs when considering the treatment of slop and waste fluid. These depend on geographical location, local environmental restrictions, infrastructure, and cost. This is why we have developed two different treatment systems.
The Xtract system
The Xtract system is based on separation through a coated ceramic rod (membrane). This stand-alone system is ideal where solids content in the slop is insignificant and is often deployed for final polishing of slop volumes. For the treatment of heavier slops with higher solids content the Xtract system is easily combined with a decanter centrifuge or scraper filter.
Features | Advantages |
---|---|
Oil in water content reduced to less than 2 parts per million in discharged water. | Satisfies the continuing demand towards a zero environmental impact. |
Unique oil/water separation technology | Contaminated brines and polluted cleaning waters can be regenerated and used for further operations. |
No chemicals are required | Avoids bulk chemical transport and logistics saving on cost and the environment |
The Xtract System is pressurized. | Any volatile gases present in the slop can be avoided without exposure to personnel and the environment. |
Remote operation. | Slop operator can run/monitor the system outside of hazardous areas |
Water discharged to sea is free of organic drilling chemical additives. | Less restriction on range of drilling fluids that can be used |
Flexible service - Use as stand alone or with add-on systems for solids control. | Save additional cost if solids removal is not an issue. |
Oil in water concentrations are monitored using continual real-time analysis systems | Full documentation of actual discharge volumes and ppm concentrations. This removes the uncertainty of using results from samples taken randomly. Compliance with IMO regulations. |

The Xpel system
The Xpel system is based on a combination of flocculation and flotation using green chemicals, and will render slop discharges to below 10 ppm oil in water. The Xpel system has been successful where a wide range of slop types need to be treated, hence it is often used for plug and abandonment scenarios. The system is suitable for high solid content and is run in conjunction with a decanter centrifuge.
Features | Advantages |
---|---|
Oil in water content reduced to less than 10 parts per million in discharged water. | Satisfies the continuing global demand towards a zero environmental impact. |
Robust design enables treatment of a wide range of slop types to 95% recovery rates of discharged water. | Ideal for remote locations where slops would otherwise have to be transported long distances at great cost. |
Minimal footprint – 12ft container. | Simple to install at rig-site where space is a premium |
Treatment capacity of 20m3/hr. | Ideal when tank capacities are low and immediate removal of slop volumes is required to enable continuing drilling operations. |
Flexible service - Use as stand alone or with add-on systems for solids control | Save additional cost if solids removal is not an issue. |
