The IKM Subsea Merlin Academy trains and guides our personnel from an early stage and develops them throughout their career path. Our competency system which is based on both IMCA and NORSOK guidelines is fine tailored to IKM Subsea’s systems.

In our facilities in Bryne we have built a state of the art training center. We have a classroom for conducting courses and ROV industry introductions for our employees. The combined classroom and meeting room has a video feed from our Simulator where we are able to run missions for employees or clients. The simulator room and classroom has a folding wall allowing us to create one big room during training with multiple students. Our production facilities, workshop and training center are all located in the same building so we are able to deliver a detailed package of training for our personnel.

The IKM ROV Simulator utilizes hardware and control software from IKM Subsea combined with the CM Labs Simulations Vortex ROV Simulator Platform. CM Labs ROV simulator software delivers superb training and mission rehearsal for real operations featuring realistic worksites.

The simulation application immerses ROV pilots in a highly realistic environment – with the actual ROV controls and high fidelity dynamics and sensor simulation. With specific worksites and ROV configuration, simulation based training allows you to rehearse and plan your operations long before equipment is fielded. It lowers training and deployment costs and reduces operational risk. Beginner pilots work in an immersive 3D environment learning the skills necessary to succeed in the real world of ROV operations, while experienced pilots can rehearse challenging procedures with no risk to real equipment or operations.

The Vortex ROV Simulator software is powered by Vortex DynamicsTM – the offshore industries leading dynamics simulation engine. It provides the highest fidelity simulation of ROV hydrodynamics, propulsion system, tethers, manipulators and available on-board sensors. The simulator is integrated with Schilling T4 Master Controller to provide the next best thing to piloting the actual ROV. In addition to emulating precision operations with manipulators the ROV Simulator features sonar, cameras and positioning with transponders to offer the most-realistic interactions imaginable

Vortex ROV Simulator Framework

The Vortex ROV simulator provides a high fidelity training environment for ROV pilots. It is based on the Vortex Frameworks for implementing training simulators. Vortex Frameworks is a distributed computing and visualization framework that includes modules for visualization, dynamics simulation, networking, instructor’s station, student record/playback and records database.
