With nearly 40 years as a leading and innovative Subsea Engineering Provider, IKM Ocean Design are proud to offer  highly competent Senior Pipeline Engineers in our offices in Stavanger, Trondheim, Oslo and Bergen. Our expertise is pipeline and cable design, including advanced analyses and geotechnical support.

Our engineers are specialists in umbilical, riser and flowline engineering (SURF). IKM Ocean Design designs offshore pipelines, ranging from routing and wall thickness calculations, to complex finite element in-place analyses for free spans, expansion and buckling and installation. We follow all phases of the project, from Concept Studies and FEED to Detail Engineering and Life Extension Studies.

For the past decade IKM Ocean Design has been working in increasing degree with power cables from land and export and inter-array cables for offshore wind.

IKM Ocean Design has over the years worked in close cooperation with the industry to develop and improve new and cost-effective technical solutions by challenging industry practice and regulations. Optimisation of pipeline and cable protection requirements and optimisation of free span rectification requirements has saved our Clients hundreds of MNOK. Our Company always works to improve our design and be ahead of our competitors with the latest technology. 


In cooperation with our largest Client, Equinor, Structural Reliability Analysis (SRA) methodology has been used for trawl fishing loads in free spans (Johan Castberg). 
At Johan Sverdrup, the Residual Curvature Method (RCM) has been applied to control expansion and buckling. Approximately 28.5 km of 16” Water Injection pipelines was successfully installed with a total of 22 residual curvature sections.

IKM Ocean Design’s subsidiary, IKM Geoteam, is a geotechnical group of engineers that performs activities such as geotechnical survey scope, offshore support, pipe – soil interaction definition, structural foundation assessment, counteract design, stability analysis with LEM method or in 3D Plaxis.
